With just ten days or so left of the English transfer window, it’s understandable that a few clubs are going to start panicking in the coming days, perhaps ending up paying more than first anticipated for a few players.

Chelsea, who have so far only signed Jorginho, could very well end up being one of those, but there’s one deal they aren’t rushing to get over the line, and that’s Bernard’s.

Currently a free agent, the negotiations surrounding the former Shakhtar star can take as long as they like, since his arrival isn’t restricted to the transfer window’s timeline.

However, that doesn’t mean it’s necessarily going to be smooth sailing for Maurizio Sarri’s new club, as a reinvigorated Milan are now providing competition, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.

Appointing Leonardo as their technical director, the Serie A side sat down with Bernard’s entourage yesterday and presented the forward with their plan going forward.

Yet to fully convince the Brazilian, Milan did, however, show him there would be some benefits in joining them rather than moving to Stamford Bridge, while other aspects of Chelsea’s offer were more rewarding.

This might be one of the transfers we talk about beyond August 9th. There won’t be many, but they might at least be one.
