After finishing 10th last season and appointing a new manager, you would have thought a revamp would take place at Chelsea for the 2016-17 Premier League, but so far, it’s been anything from that.
The arrivals of Michy Batshuayi and N’Golo Kanté have been very good additions, while the signing of Eduardo as backup goalkeeper suggests Asmir Begovic wants first-team football elsewhere, yet you’d expect more from such a rich club.
With only five days left in the transfer window, things might accelerate in the coming days at Stamford Bridge, and if reports in Italy are to be believed, they’ve already started doing so.
According to TuttoMercatoWeb, Chelsea and Fiorentina are currently in talks over the potential transfer of left-back Marcos Alonso.
The 25-year-old Spaniard appears to be the replacement for Rahman Baba, sent on loan to Schalke 04 for the coming season as he was deemed ‘too attacking’ by Antonio Conte.
Fiorentina are apparently asking for €25m for their left-back, which, considering he’s their starting player in that spot, as well as being versatile enough to play in the middle if need be, isn’t extortionate in today’s market.
There’s still enough time left to get a deal done, but you’d expect Chelsea to want to lower the price if they can.
Marcos Alonso has experience of English football, having played for Bolton Wanderers.
