On Wednesday afternoon, the Brazilian media let us know that Chelsea were planning on renewing Thiago Silva’s contract.
The defender’s current deal expires in 2022, and while the Blues don’t tend to extend contracts for players of his age, the fact he has performed so well and is integral to Thomas Tuchel’s plans has changed their mind.
This has since been backed up by a report from France, where Foot Mercato also claim that Chelsea ‘have started talks to renew Thiago Silva’.
They explain that the board have been ‘satisfied’ with his performances, and it’s made clear that the player ‘wants to stay’ with the Champions League winners.
Now, all that’s left to do is to find ‘common ground’ on the financial aspect of the deal, but considering the money at their disposal and the willingness of all parties to get it done, it shouldn’t be too difficult.
Since arriving at Stamford Bridge, the veteran has made 48 appearances, scored three goals and assisted another.
