If Corriere dello Sport are to be believed, then there’s a good chance Matias Vecino could be sold by Inter to Chelsea should Maurizio Sarri be announced as Antonio Conte’s successor.
The Italian newspaper report on Monday that the Italian manager has endorsed the arrival of the Uruguayan midfielder, for whom Inter would like €35m.
That money would do two things for the Serie A side: give their accounts much needed ‘oxygen’ and allow them to make a move for a winger in the coming months.
Inter’s interest in Chelsea’s Davide Zappacosta, whose agent is also Vecino’s, could have led to some sort of swap deal, but the Italian club’s priority here is to get cash for the 26-year-old.
Alessandro Lucci, the players’ representative, is expected to be in London to sort out the right-back’s situation, and there’s no doubt talks surrounding his midfield client will also take place.
A previous report on Zappacosta’s future from Gazzetta dello Sport explained Inter would be more than willing to do a deal should Chelsea agree to a loan with a view to buy, and that could be the key to both deals going through.
Inter receiving €35m would help them get their winger, while the permanent acquisition of the defender could be delayed by a year.
As for the Blues, they’d get Maurizio Sarri his man, with the knowledge that money will land in their accounts next summer when their Italian counterparts pay the pre-agreed fee for Zappacosta.
Simple, right?
