Perhaps it’s time for us start taking the rumours which are linking Flamengo midfielder Gerson to Chelsea seriously.
Following a report from Fox Sports at the weekend, it’s now time for reliable Globo journalist Eric Faria to come up with more information on this situation.
Speaking to Sportv on Monday, the reporter has claimed that both Chelsea and Borussia Dortmund have been negotiating with agent Giuliano Bertolucci lately.
It’s said that Flamengo should receive an official offer for the midfielder of around €35m and it’s expected to arrive on the 18th, 19th or 20th of June.
Eric Faria says he’s confirmed the negotiations when speaking to Gerson’s father last week, but the thing is that he doesn’t make it clear which club would make the offer, since both Borussia Dortmund and Chelsea are said to be strong in the negotiations.
Even though Flamengo have been financially healthy over the past couple of seasons, it’s unlikely they could turn down such an offer, especially in a year when the income will be harmed by the Coronavirus pandemic.
Gerson had previous experience in Italy when playing for Roma in Fiorentina, and returned to Brazil in 2019, but his last year at Flamengo, where he’s won the Brazilian League and the Copa Libertadores, has been good enough to call the attention from European sides again.
