AS Monaco fullback-turned-midfielder Fabinho has repeatedly been linked with a move to the Premier League. Whether it be Chelsea, Manchester United or Manchester City, the big guns are routinely linked with Fabinho interest.
And why not? The 22 year old has shown enough at Monaco to prove that he’s an excellent player, and with many clubs requiring fullback upgrades over the past, and probably future, few seasons, Fabinho is an absolutely obvious target.
The footballer has been speaking to French newspaper L’Equipe, talking about his rise in the game, and explaining that all his family dreamed the only son, he’s got two older sisters, could become a professional.
Whilst a youth at Fluminense, Fabinho has revealed there was chatter of interest from Chelsea, although he ended up joining Portugal’s Rio Ave instead: “Many people said to me: “Ah, there are big clubs like Chelsea who talk about you.”
“Rio Ave, I admit that I did not know too much about them. Still, it was a good opportunity because, at Fluminense, I had little chance to go up immediately to the team, there were other players in my position before me.”
Bluntly asked if he’ll be moving to a bigger club next summer, Fabinho said: “It could have been already done, but I’m under contract here. Here, I’m fine, I’m an important player of one of the best teams in the Championship.”
And on fulfilling those football dreams: “It was also the dream of my parents, my uncles, the whole family.”
Maybe Chelsea could return for the player, he’d certainly improve them.
