A couple of days ago we covered a claim from France’s Le Parisien that Chelsea had come to an agreement to sign N’Golo Kante for a fee of €35m. There had been earlier claims that Kante had a release clause set at a lower amount, but those had always seemed rather shaky.
After Le Parisien’s claims, France Football published the same story, as did L’Equipe, with the latter linking back to the original claims.
On Friday morning France Football report that Chelsea have submitted a bid for Kante, and the amount is set at €36m. That’s quite a curious figure, especially given the earlier claims of €35m.
Perhaps it’s a currency fluctuation, and Chelsea’s offer is presented to Leicester City in sterling, which would obviously make sense given they are both English clubs.
€36m works out today to be £30m, so we’d assume the figure was always £30m, and maybe the claims of an agreement were a step too far.
France Football say talks are ongoing.
