Regardless of his importance to Chelsea, Thibaut Courtois has never hidden the fact he loved his time in Spain with Atlético Madrid and has openly admitted a few times to a desire to return there one day.

Of course, a lot of things stand in his way before that could ever happen, notably the financial aspect of the deal, as the Blues are unlikely to want to part ways with their star goalkeeper.

However, if Atlético Madrid were to get €100m, that could change, and that’s what AS are putting forward on Tuesday.

With both Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus said to be keen on Jan Oblak and his €100m release clause, a sale would see the La Liga side with cash to spare, and their number one option to replace him would be Thibaut Courtois.

There’s a mention of English reports in there, but we certainly couldn’t find any linking the Chelsea goalkeeper to a return to La Liga.

Furthermore, the Spanish outlet state the move has ‘Courtois’ blessing’, whose ‘experience in the Premier League is disappointing him’.

Over in Madrid, the ideal scenario would be for Jan Oblak to renew his contract with Atlético and up his release clause to €200m, but AS don’t see that as a feasible option, meaning a summer exit for the Slovenian goalkeeper is likeliest outcome.

It all sounds far too good to be true, doesn’t it?
