It’s been a while since we’ve heard from Charly Musonda Jr., but the 20-year-old is now back in the headlines in Belgium after a recent meeting with Chelsea.
The forward was loaned to Betis at the beginning of the season, where he was playing sporadically, yet a change of manager and a mystery knee injury made life very difficult, leading him to return to Stamford Bridge.
Since his return, Musonda has made three U23 appearances for Chelsea, scoring a goal against Manchester City, but hasn’t even come close to being a part of Antonio Conte’s plans, which has put a big question mark regarding his future.
7sur7 in Belgium appear to have an update on Friday, and claim the Blues met with the youngster, and gave him an ultimatum: sign a new deal or get sold.
The website explain that with a contract running out in 2019, Chelsea would be interested in keeping him a while longer and extending his stay in London, but they will not let his deal run out.
However, the problem for Musonda here is that, if he does sign a new deal, he’ll just end up going out on loan again, which isn’t a long-term solution for young players wanting to establish themselves in the world of football.
Kenneth Omeruo recently explained to the BBC playing for Chelsea was no longer his ‘immediate priority’, and expressed his frustration at constantly being sent away from the club temporarily.
Reports have suggested Bertrand Traoré is also starting to feel the same way, and Musonda could follow suit by refusing to sign a new deal at Stamford Bridge.
