Chelsea midfielder Willian has been named ambassador of a institution for disabled people in Brazil.
On Tuesday, he made a visit to Apraespi (Association of Prevention, Specialised Care and Inclusion of People with Disabilities), which is located in his home town Ribeirão Pires.
Willian committed to spread the institution’s name in Brazil and abroad, and they will be allowed to use his image to promote their actions. The player has also donated a signed shirt for an auction.
During his speech, Willian cried and said: “I’m emotional because several things came through my mind, since I started playing football, the difficulties I had… Seeing the children, I got emotional. I hope my image and my name make Apraespi grow. It’s a thrill and a privilege to be part of the institution.” (via Diário do Grande ABC)
The 27-year-old also received gifts from the kids and a honour board from the institution. He watched a presentation made by the children and also visited the hospital they have. Willian was clearly emotional about the visit, and his assistance will be boost for both the children and the organisation.
Despite the expectations, Willian was not called up for the Olympic national team and is ready to join the Chelsea squad for the pre-season in July.
