When Real Madrid fell out with their fax machine last summer over the failed David De Gea transfer, it seems that the office equipment promised he’d (or she’d, who knows!) make everything better in the long term.
In September came the chance. Chelsea’s Thibaut Courtois suffered a knee injury and the Real Madrid fax machine got to work sending a message of support.
Courtois, asked about rumours of Real Madrid interest, explained to Marca: “What I do know is that Real Madrid made a very nice touch for me. When I hurt my knee I was sent a fax wishing me a speedy recovery.”
On the rumours, Courtois said: “I only see what appears in the press, but for my profile, I guess many clubs look at me. I could adapt to the game of any team.”
Given that Courtois made those comments as part of a wider interview in which he said he could leave Chelsea, and had always planned to return to Spain, it’s not exactly going to go down well with the Chelsea faithful.
The fax machine will surely be thrilled if his work helps to create a wedge and has planted a seed in Courtois’ head about a transfer to Real Madrid at some stage.
