Chelsea star Willian has spoken to the Brazilian media about the good form he and the club are having this season.

Outlet Globo Esporte brings a headline saying ‘Willian grows at Chelsea after Hazard’s departure, sees evolution with Lampard and awaits renewal’.

The winger hasn’t really spoken about Hazard’s move to Real Madrid, but had a lot to say about his improvement since Frank Lampard took charge of the club last summer.

At Chelsea since 2013, Willian is one of the few players who had the chance to have the club legend both as a teammate and now as a manager.

“I had the pleasure, the privilege of being able to play with him, now being trained by him, I’m feeling very happy and very confident too. This season I’ve had more freedom. For the past three years, with Italian coaches, it’s been a more robotic game. With Lampard it’s given me a lot of freedom to be able to come inside, to be able to go to the left, to spin between lines, as I had played with Mourinho a few times. I feel that this way my football yields a lot more.”

Even though his contract with Chelsea expires the end of the season, Willian claims he wants to stay at the club, and Globo Esporte writes that there are ‘forwarded talks’ for his renewal.

“I think about staying at the club. My contract ends at the end of the season, I don’t know how the situation will be, whether we will renew or not. But the desire to stay for a few more years is undoubtedly real. I really want to stay at the club. I’m well adapted, I like everyone, I also feel the affection of the fans for me, the people who work in the club. I like the city a lot too. I don’t have to leave. I’m only leaving if the club don’t want me to stay.”

A lot will depend on what kind of renewal is offered ahead of the summer, with disagreement possible on the length of the contract. Willian turns 32 years of age next summer and Chelsea may not be prepared to give him the ‘few more years’ he’s looking for.
