Edouard Mendy moving to Chelsea was considered a done deal at the end of last week, although reports from France in recent days have insisted that wasn’t the case.

He missed Rennes’ weekend match against Nimes, with the Ligue 1 club insisting that was because of a small injury, rather than being related to a transfer.

Chelsea and Rennes have been working to find agreement, with the final step proving a difficult one to take. With the French side holding out for €28m, the Blues have had to find a way to reach that figure.

Canal+ journalist Paul Tchoukriel says the clubs have now reached an agreement which will see Chelsea pay €22m as a guaranteed amount, and a further €6m in potential bonus payments.

Now that’s been sorted, the transfer is described as being ‘imminent’.

Kepa Arrizabalaga started for Chelsea on Tuesday evening, as they beat Brighton & Hove Albion 3-1. The goalkeeper received some criticism for failing to stop the Brighton goal.
