Chelsea are showing ‘great interest’ in Wolfsburg defender Maxence Lacroix, with Thomas Tuchel keen to add a defender to his squad.
That’s according to Sky Germany, who say plans for the summer transfer window are in ‘full swing’ at Stamford Bridge.
After impressing since arriving in January, it’s widely felt that Tuchel will be given a war chest this summer to shape the squad he inherited from Frank Lampard in his image.
According to Sky’s information, one of the areas that the German boss wants to add in is central defence, and he wants at least one addition in that position.
That’s where the reports linking them to Raphael Varane have emerged from, but he is not the only name they are looking at.
Lacroix is another name on their list, and earlier this week, it was reported that they had ‘established’ contacts ahead of a potential €30m move.
Sky pick up on that and confirm Lacroix is ‘attracting interest’ from Chelsea and particularly Tuchel, with the club having already ‘made contact’ with his agent about a move.
He’s under contract at Wolfsburg until 2024 but has recently turned down an extension at the club, despite the fact it saw an improvement in wages.
VfL want to keep their ‘top performer’ but ‘could weaken’ at an offer of ‘around’ €30m, a price the likes of Chelsea can probably afford comfortably.
The Blues are not the only side who are aware of the Frenchman, and thus the ‘poker’ for Lacroix is well and truly open.
