Last Wednesday, Calciomercato in Italy suggested both Arsenal and Chelsea were interested in Marseille’s Boubacar Kamara for next season.
The young French centre-back has been a regular under Rudi Garcia at the Stade Vélodrome this season, finally getting the first-team football he and fans were asking for, and he’s done quite well for himself.
The team, as a whole, has struggled, but the 19-year-old has proved decisive recently, scoring the winner in a 1-0 win against Bordeaux, and playing the full 90 minutes in Friday’s 2-1 away win against Dijon.
According to Mercato365 over the weekend, Chelsea have taken an extra step compared to their London rivals, sending a scout from Stamford Bridge to watch Kamara in action in the recent Ligue 1 clash where he was paired up alongside Duje Caleta-Car.
The idea was for the Blues to ‘view his progress’, clearly having done so in the past when he first emerged, and there’s a strong chance they like what they saw.
Despite making his debut during the 2016-17 season in the Coupe de La Ligue, Kamara has needed to be patient to finally get a regular spot in his childhood club, playing just six times in the league last year compared to this season’s 19 (so far).
His current deal is due to expire in June 2020, meaning a contract renewal might be on the cards in the coming months.
If not, someone from Stamford Bridge could see this as an opportunity and come knocking.
