Chelsea are one of four clubs ‘in the running’ to sign David Alaba in the summer window, report Kicker.
The German media source has been speaking to the player’s agent Pini Zahavi, who explained the defender is still making up his mind about a move. He’s decided to leave Bayern Munich this summer as a free agent, after he failed to agree a contract extension with the Bundesliga champions.
Zahavi isn’t quoted specifically mentioning Chelsea, but given he’s been speaking to Kicker it doesn’t take too much detective work to conclude that’s where the list of four clubs came from.
Real Madrid, Barcelona and PSG join the Premier League club, however, there are caveats put at the side of each club other than Madrid.
Barcelona aren’t thought to have the finances to cover Alaba’s wages, PSG are looking towards a more frugal summer, and the defender isn’t at the top of Chelsea’s priority list.
Given Thomas Tuchel’s side don’t have Alaba as a priority target, it’s got to be considered unlikely they’d offer the wages required, so there’s a chance Zahavi has dragged Chelsea in to help put pressure on Real Madrid to conclude a deal sooner rather than later.
