Ahead of Manchester United vs Paris Saint-Germain, Laurent Blanc sat down with Le Parisien to preview the game.
Towards the end, once he’d revealed he would be supporting the Ligue 1 champions, the former France international was asked about whether or not he would be returning to management next summer.
His answer was a convoluted yes, stating he first needed to be approached, which is where Chelsea come in.
According to TuttoMercatoWeb in Italy, the Blues have ‘renewed contacts’ with the French manager after previous talks in the summer prior to Maurizio Sarri’s appointment.
This doesn’t necessarily mean the Italian will get sacked just yet, as the website explain these are just preliminary steps in case things don’t change for the better at Stamford Bridge in the near future.
What it does mean, however, is that, if true, Chelsea are actively thinking about potentially cutting ties with Sarri, which is never a good sign.
Then again, we’ll believe it when we see it, but the mood at Cobham isn’t exactly ideal these days after the 6-0 drubbing at the hands of Manchester City at the weekend.
Next, they face Malmö in the Europa League followed by Manchester United in the FA Cup, and some poor results here could end up sealing Sarri’s fate.
