Chelsea have made progress to sign Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang by reaching an agreement in principle with Barcelona.

The 33-year-old is not the only forward being discussed between the Blues and the La Liga side.

According to journalist Gerard Romero, relayed by Sport, Chelsea have entered the scene for Memphis Depay. He is aware the opportunities to play regular football at the Camp Nou will be limited, even with Aubameyang’s departure.

The Netherlands international wants to represent his country at the Qatar World Cup and his chances of making it to Louis van Gaal’s starting team will be increased by featuring regularly for the club.

He believes that will not be possible at Barcelona and therefore, the ex-Manchester United man has asked to leave the club. It’s said Thomas Tuchel’s side emerge as a ‘real option’ for him on the deadline day.

Barcelona and Chelsea are finalising the details of the deal that will see the Gabonese move to Stamford Bridge. The two clubs would be probing to close a parallel operation involving Depay.

Romero took to Twitter to state the west London club have emerged as possible option for Depay. In addition to this, the Blaugrana and Chelsea ‘agree on the exit formula’. There is no mention from him or Sport as to what that ‘exit formula’ is.
