Following yet another injury to Reece James’ knee, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Chelsea make a move for a new right-back in the coming weeks.

The England international is expected to be out for at least three weeks, leaving Graham Potter short at a position where help has been needed for a while now.

Chelsea wanted Denzel Dumfries last summer, but never got a deal over the line, and their interest in the Dutchman has done anything but wane.

Corriere dello Sport take all this into consideration, and discuss the possibility of the Blues bringing their interest forward to January instead of the summer.

They point out that James ‘now has the label of a player at risk’, and will need to be monitored carefully once he does come back from this latest setback.

Corriere explain that, as things stand, those in charge of transfers at Stamford Bridge are ‘pondering whether to anticipate what they had already planned for next summer’.

That means bring forward any move, and should they do that, it would give Inter a headache they hadn’t really planned for.

Their idea was to cash in on Dumfries in the summer, allowing his sale to round off the financial year nicely, but a January move would see them in need of a replacement midway through the season, and the tmeans spending money.

Chelsea are the team that ‘pushes the most’ for the Netherlands international, but there are other clubs, meaning that ‘the greater the competition, the more substantial the collection’.

Something to keep an eye on in the coming weeks, with Dumfries expected to bring in at least €50m into Inter’s coffer when he is eventually sold.
