Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain have been attentive to the situation of Barcelona star Gavi, according to Sport.

The La Liga side have added Oriol Romeu and İlkay Gündoğan to their squad and the duo’s arrival could have an impact on the 18-year-old’s game time this season.

It’s claimed Xavi Hernández seems to favour Frenkie de Jong, Pedri, Gündoğan and Romeu ahead of Gavi. This has, according to Sport, seen Chelsea and PSG revive their interest in the Spanish youngster.

The report states both the Blues and the Ligue 1 side would swoop in for the youngster if there is a chance to secure his services.

Chelsea and the Paris club were told there’s no chance of the Spain international leaving the Camp Nou after they contacted his entourage earlier this summer.

Both the player and Barca didn’t want to negotiate but Sport say their ‘interest is still there’. Despite this, Gavi isn’t keen on changing clubs and ‘only has Barca in his mind’.

Chelsea have continued to spend big despite their lack of European football. Signing Gave would almost certainly be a step too far, but given Chelsea’s ability to surprise this summer, nothing can be ruled out.

That said, this feels like Sport engaging in some Catalan drama which is largely for their own audience.
