Chelsea are considered the biggest threat to take Diego Lopez from Espanyol. Currently on loan from AC Milan, the player had already been a target for Antonio Conte last summer, but ended up joining the Spanish side.

AS claims that although Espanyol were confident they could keep the former Real Madrid player for longer, there are a couple of factors which could change the situation.

First because Chelsea are obviously a more attractive option for him, as Lopez would be back in the chase for major titles. Secondly there’s also the change in Milan’s ownership, which could have an impact on the old relationship between the clubs and make the negotiations different from now on.

But AS only mentions interest in Lopez as for a replacement for Thibaut Courtois, which sounds quite unlikely.  Lopez would surely only be of interest to Chelsea as a replacement for Asmir Begovic, which the Spaniard may not be quite as keen on.
