Chelsea will make another attempt to sign Barcelona’s Jules Koundé, according to Sport.
His preferred position is in the heart of the defence but Xavi Hernández has mainly used him as a right-back this season. This hasn’t pleased the 24-year-old, who is ‘willing to leave’ the La Liga side in the summer.
Koundé’s desire to leave has alerted Chelsea, who failed signing him in 2021 when he was at Sevilla. They were also keen to acquire his signature last summer but he snubbed them for the Catalan club.
The France international is unhappy with his situation and is expected to drop down the pecking order with Íñigo Martínez’s arrival in the summer. In the background, there is the west London club, who are ‘pressing to sign him’.
Chelsea are keeping close tabs on the developments taking place around the defender for months and are also waiting to find out about Barca’s position for the transfer.
Xavi’s side aren’t going to rush and hope the player will reconsider his position.
They see a great future for him at the Camp Nou and will not undersell him, even if he’s angry. Barca have made it clear they will not negotiate a sale for ‘less than €75m’.
The Blaugrana’s idea is to stop Koundé’s departure, unless Chelsea table a ‘stratospheric’ offer for him. It needs to be seen whether the Blues can convert their interest into a bid to sign the Frenchman.
