Edinson Cavani finds himself in an awkward situation at PSG.
He’s a club legend yet has been pushed out of the picture this season by the arrival of Mauro Icardi. Wanting to leave, some may feel the French club should make it easy for their player, given all he’s given them.
L’Equipe has an article today, with Atletico Madrid and Chelsea the only two clubs mentioned.
The Spanish club have already made a €10m offer, but there’s been no update since that was knocked back. PSG feel ‘a little trapped’, because whilst they’d like to keep Cavani at least until his contract expires in the summer, they ‘feel obliged’ to listen to approaches.
L’Equipe say Cavani has told people close to him that his initial plan had been to see out his contract and perhaps even extend, but he hadn’t expected to see his prominence reduced so much, and to not have any explanation from Thomas Tuchel.
Atletico are said to be considering a new offer, which could reach €15m before the market closes.
Ending their article, the French newspaper has a paragraph about Chelsea.
The Blues have ‘positioned themselves’ with a view to next season, but they could still ‘interfere’ in this window. Cavani’s January idea has been solely focused on Atletico, however, L’Equipe say he ‘can no longer rule out crossing the Channel now’.
Le Parisien carry a big article on Cavani today… which doesn’t even mention Chelsea.
Part of the story states PSG could be worried about selling the player to Diego Simeone’s side because it’s possible they could meet in the Champions League, and the Uruguayan knocking his old club out would lead to ‘trauma’ in Paris.
