Chelsea are in ‘pole position’ to beat Manchester City to the signing of Borussia Dortmund youngster Nnamdi Collins.
BILD report that the Blues are at the front of the queue for the 16-year-old, who they have been watching closely for the last three years.
They are now ‘ready’ to put together a ‘million dollar package’ to lure him away from Dortmund and to Stamford Bridge, where he will be their ‘defensive boss’ in the future.
Chelsea are not the only side interested, though, with Manchester City also competing for his signature.
This is causing a problem for Dortmund, who are keen to keep the youngster, who they bought from Fortuna Düsseldorf four years ago and retrained from an offensive midfielder into a defender.
He’s flourished since then and made a name for himself running the 30 metres in 3.8 seconds, only a tenth of a second slower than Pierre Emerick Aubayemang.
Michael Zorc is working personally to talk the youngster into extending his contract until 2021 and has been ‘fighting’ for weeks to get him to do so.
That is yet to happen though, and his chances of success are being hampered by the interest from the Premier League, namely Chelsea.
Dortmund’s plan is to promote the defender into the U19 squad and offer him training with the senior squad in an attempt to convince him to stay in Germany.
The German U16 captain’s decision is ‘pending’ though, with that interest from Chelsea and the Etihad sure to be something he’ll want to mull over before making any firm commitments.
