Marca have been inspired by Romelu Lukaku’s idea of an All Star match between the North and South of the Premier League.
The Spanish newspaper today have an article asking their readers to vote players into each selection, and it’s Chelsea leading the way for the London clubs.
Antonio Conte’s men have six players in the team, Mauricio Pochettino sees 4 of his men in there, and there’s just the one from Arsene Wenger’s team.
At the time of writing, the All Star South Team for Marca readers is: Thibaut Courtois, Hector Bellerin, Cesar Azpilicueta (as a central defender), Toby Alderweireld, Marcos Alonso, N’Golo Kante, Dele Alli, Christian Eriksen, Willian, Eden Hazard and Harry Kane.
There’s a few eyebrow raising inclusions. Bellerin isn’t having his best season by a long way, but he was put against Victor Moses and is currently winning 85-15%.
Alonso is in ahead of Nacho Monreal, with the vote standing at 93-7%, a massive difference.
Arsenal fans may not be happy to see Mesut Ozil excluded, with Willian winning 65-35%.
As for the manager, Pochettino is on 77% of the votes, Conte on 16%, and Wenger has just 7%.
The North Team is David De Gea, Kyle Walker, Nicolas Otamendi, Virgil van Dijk, Benjamin Mendy, Paul Pogba, Kevin De Bruyne, David Silva, Mo Salah, Alexi Sanchez and Sergio Aguero.
70% think North would win.
