Earlier this week, we covered claims from Germany that Trevoh Chalobah is likely to leave Chelsea in January and is keen to join Bayern Munich. It was also stated the Bavarian club are in ongoing contact for a potential deal.
Bayern honorary president Uli Hoeneß has admitted the club’s sporting leaders could look to strengthen in defence.
“I hear that our sporting management may want to bring in another defender during the winter break – either in central or as a right-back,” he told RTL, relayed by Sport1.
The Chelsea defender can operate in these two positions and continues to be an option for the German champions, according to Sky Deutschland.
Dayot Upamecano has recently suffered a hamstring injury while Matthijs De Ligt hasn’t yet returned to full training following his own injury.
Sky point this out and add that summer signing Kim Min-jae is still getting used to the club and the league. Despite the current situation, Thomas Tuchel’s side will not look to bring in another defender as a free agent before the window reopens in January.
It’s said Bayern are expected to be active in January and the Chelsea player ‘comes up again and again’ at the club. They looked at the 24-year-old in the last window and Sky now state the German champions’ officials will ‘deal again’ with him in the next window.
The report further explains that it’s possible for Bayern and Chelsea to ‘resume talks’ for Chalobah in the coming months.
