Yahoo Brasil journalist Jorge Nicola has on Wednesday published a list of players who are turning into free agents in the summer, and could sign a pre-contract with Brazilian sides.
Five players are named: Arda Turan, Robinho, Charles Aranguiz, Pedro Rodriguez and Willian. So that’s Chelsea under the risk of losing two of their wingers.
We don’t really believe Nicola has sources close to the Spaniard, but he does have something interesting to say about Willian.
It’s claimed that from this list, the 31-year-old is the most wanted, having received an offer from Barcelona in the past few days, before the window closed.
It’s said Barça offered £20m for Willian, but Chelsea turned it down. The Blues would rather lose the player for free than harm their chances of getting a spot in the Champions League next season.
Nicola also brings some bad news for Brazilian clubs. He says that after contacting Willian’s staff, he’s learned the player hasn’t received any offers from his home country.
Given that Willian has still been showing he can keep a high level in Europe, and has given many interviews saying he’s not looking to leave Chelsea, it’s not surprising that Brazilian clubs will see him as an impossible signing.
Should the London club offer a good renewal, it will likely be signed, but the longer that goes without happening the more talk of a summer transfer will grow.
