Last week, a picture said to be France Football’s Ballon d’Or results list had been doing the rounds on social media.
The print showed Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski as the winner. He was followed by Lionel Messi, Karim Benzema, Mohamed Salah and Jorginho.
Even though that leak was rubbished by the French outlet, Chelsea midfielder Jorginho has spoken about it in an interview this week.
Following the Blues’ win against Malmo in the Champions League, the 29-year-old was interviewed by TNT Sports and quizzed about the list. The player didn’t want to feed the rumours, but also seemed to be fine with that result.
“Like it or not, this list that came out, I believe it’s more of a social media thing,” Jorginho told TNT Sports.
“If that the one too, it’s all… what do I have to complain about this year I’ve had, you understand? So let’s wait and see what happens. Keep creating… not controversies, but you know, talking about it, or something that came out. I don’t think it’s worth wasting energy on this right now. Let’s wait for what will happen.”
Jorginho is considered to be one of the favourites to win the Ballon d’Or following the Champions League victory for Chelsea and the Euros triumph with Italy last season. Even though France Football dismissed the posts, this wouldn’t be the first time that the leaked list ends up being right.
