With his contract with Chelsea expiring at the end of the season, defender David Luiz is starting to get some offers to join other clubs as a free agent.
Brazilian journalist Jorge Nicola details some of these bids today, although none of them have convinced the player so far.
One of the offers was made by Palmeiras, who put €10m on the table, in a deal which included salary and signing bonuses. That’s huge by Brazilian standards, but David Luiz is not keen on returning to his home country at this stage of his career.
The other bid was made by an unnamed club from Qatar, who offered an incredible amount of €40m for a three-year contract. Although it hasn’t been responded to yet, the player is ready to reject it as well.
Jorge Nicola says David Luiz has an ‘obsession’ to return to the national team, and to achieve that, he believes he must be playing for a top club which features in the Champions League.
There’s no information on whether he would like to stay at Chelsea or not. What Nicola reports is that the Blues have made an offer to extend his contract for one year, which is a standard procedure for players over the age of 30.
David Luiz, however, wants at least two years.
