After months of recuperation and physiotherapy, the light can finally be seen at the end of the long tunnel for Davide Zappacosta.
The Chelsea loanee, who was sent to AS Roma for the season, ruptured his knee ligament at the start of the season and has been on the sidelines ever since.
However, Corriere dello Sport are reporting on Wednesday that Zappacosta is continuing his rehabilitation, and the medical checks have been ‘very positive’.
With that in mind, there’s hope the defender will soon be able to rejoin his teammates in group training in the ‘next few weeks’ with a view to potentially featuring in a game for the first time since August 25th after the next international break scheduled for the end of March.
Should that all go to plan, it’s explained Zappacosta will spend the next few months trying to prove Roma to count on him next season, and if they like what they see, ‘it isn’t excluded’ that the Serie A club could ‘request to renew the loan for another year’.
There’s a lot to play for between now and the end of the season for the Chelsea player, and, as we’ve said before, if it works out, he may never return to Stamford Bridge ever again.
We doubt that’s something he’ll mind, too, since Frank Lampard appears to have no intention to use him.
