After spending last year on loan at AS Roma recovering from a bad knee injury, Davide Zappacosta returned to Chelsea this summer.
Unfortunately for the Italian, he didn’t fit in Frank Lampard’s plans, meaning another move away from Stamford Bridge was needed for the upcoming season.
A move to Italy made the most sense, and there was hope at one point that he could move once again to play under Paulo Fonseca, but that never materialised.
Instead, it’s Genoa who decided to give Zappacosta a chance at getting some football under his belt this season, with the right-back moving there on loan.
Sky Sport journalist Gianluca Di Marzio explains on Friday the player arrived in Genoa this morning and is ‘currently undergoing his medicals’ to then sort out the final details of his signing with the Serie A club.
He then states Zappacosta will move on a ‘dry loan’, meaning the Italians won’t pay any fee to Chelsea and there will be no option to buy during his spell there.
