On August 25th, Eden Hazard’s father, Thierry, gave an interview to Belgian newspaper Het Nieuwsblad in which he explained he wasn’t aware why the Chelsea player’s move to Real Madrid didn’t take shape.

Hazard sr also admitted that things would have been different for his son if Zinedine Zidane was still in charge of the Spanish capital club. The forward has reiterated that he is happy at the west London club, where he has less than two years left on his contract.

Former Sheffield Wednesday and Belgium attacker Marc Degryse has spoken Belgian newspaper, Het Laatste Nieuws and the headline of the story reads “Hazard had to go to Real, he is too good for Chelsea.”

The 52-year-old stressed the lack of the Champions League football at Chelsea means the Premier League star is missing out on the best club competition in the world, and explained why his compatriot should not stay at the west London club beyond this season.

“Well, I think Hazard could have used that transfer to Real Madrid more than Courtois. Hazard’s level above Chelsea, it’s bizarre that one of the best footballers in the world will not be playing the Champions League,” Degryse said.

“…this really has to be his last season at Chelsea. Chelsea is not of the level Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, these clubs where he belongs today because of his status.”
