Emerson Palmieri arrived at Chelsea from AS Roma in January 2018 and had to wait for a year before he started featuring regularly for the Blues.

The Brazil-born Italy international was the first choice left-back for Maurizio Sarri,  ahead of Marcos Alonso, in the second half of the last season and has retained his place in the starting lineup under Frank Lampard.

Sarri moved to Juventus in the summer and reports coming out of Italy suggested the Old Lady were chasing the defender. In addition to this, there were rumours about AC Milan and Inter Milan’s interest in the 25-year-old.

TuttoMercatoWeb claim Emeron’s €25m valuation and the Europa League winners’ transfer ban hindered any potential move in the summer.

His current deal at Stamford Bridge runs down in 2022, but the report claims Chelsea want to extend his contract. It’s claimed the player is ‘very close’ to signing a new five-year deal with the English club, worth €5m per season.

TMW also adds Emerson’s ‘probable and hypothetical return’ to Italy is collapsing because of Chelsea’s high valuation and their desire not to let him leave in the next market.
