Turning down the chance to reunite with Erik ten Hag, Frenkie de Jong made it clear over the summer that he wanted to stay at Barcelona, all the while Chelsea were hovering.

There was even talk that he could join the Blues in a surprise move, as the Spanish club were trying to force him out of the Camp Nou because of his big wages, but that never happened.

However, Chelsea don’t appear to have given up on the hope of signing the Dutchman, as a new article claims they are still interested.

This comes courtesy of Fichajes, who state the Stamford Bridge side are ‘planning to launch an offer that would be around €80m’, which would be a combination of a fixed fee and some bonuses on top.

That being said, despite this incoming effort, De Jong ‘would not be willing to open the exit door for Barcelona’.

That’s another blow for Barcelona, who would have to once again deal with his wages, as they navigate murky waters ahead of a summer that could see them once again have to pull off a few magic tricks in order to have spending money to bolster Xavi’s squad.

The sale of De Jong to Chelsea would really help them out, but he’s under contract, and if he doesn’t want to leave, he doesn’t have to.
