Following all the Antony drama, it seems Ajax have one more big concern at the end of the transfer window.
According to De Telegraaf, Chelsea have just placed a ‘mega bid’ for club star Edson Alvarez. The Blues are said to be offering €50m for the midfielder.
The report points out the player was previously ‘not allowed’ to move to Rennes and Newcastle United, with both clubs trying to take him this summer. Now, with this attempt from Thomas Tuchel’s side, he ‘wants to leave’.
It’s said the Mexico international wonders ‘if an opportunity like this will ever come’ again, and now ‘set eyes’ on Chelsea. Partly because he can earn four times what he makes in Amsterdam.
De Telegraaf doesn’t make it clear if Ajax turned down the Blues’ bid, but they do claim that the club’s position is that ‘no one is allowed to leave’. Meanwhile, Alvarez is said to be ‘demanding’ that the Eredivisie giants open talks with the Blues, so there’s a lot more to come.
The outlet predicts it will be a ‘hot 1st of September’ at the Dutch side.
