Over the past couple of days, reports coming out of France suggested Manchester United could try to sign Edinson Cavani on a free transfer in the summer.

Two days ago, L’Equipe had a report on the Paris Saint-Germain striker, which suggested Chelsea still have some hope.

Atlético Madrid have been credited with an interest in the Uruguay international throughout January, but they failed to meet the Ligue 1 winners’ demands for the transfer.

Friday’s edition of L’Equipe explains the 32-year-old will continue with Thomas Tuchel’s side and leave the Parc des Princes as a free agent after this season.

It’s claimed the attacker can ‘choose his new destination’ for next season and the Europa League winners get a mention. The newspaper adds Cavani is drawing attention from England and ‘in particular’ from the Blues, who ‘think of him’. 

Chelsea could face competition as L’Equipe adds the La Liga club should come back for the South American in the summer.
