Chelsea had an official at the match between Tondela and Benfica on Saturday night, reports Sunday’s edition of O Jogo. The Portuguese newspaper get their information from official club lists, which are provided to the media in Portugal.

Chelsea were one of a number of clubs with someone at the match and the most obvious link would be Victor Lindelof. The Swedish defender has been repeatedly linked with Chelsea recently, and played the full match, which Benfica won 2-0.

O Jogo don’t think it was one of the defender’s best games, only rating him as 5 out of 10, and whilst Portuguese ratings are much harsher than English ones, that still signifies an average at best performance.

In July we covered claims that Chelsea were willing to pay €30m for Lindelof, a week or so later it was reported Benfica’s president had flown to London for talks on various transfers, including this possibility.

We’ve always found it a little surprising that Chelsea would be keen on Lindelof, he probably needs more time to improve, and another year at Benfica would be best.
