On December 14th, Sky Deutschland stated Chelsea have initiated contacts with Borussia Dortmund goalkeeper Gregor Kobel.
Five days later, we covered claims from Germany that Chelsea’s chances of securing his services will increases enormously if BVB fail to qualify for the Champions League.
Bild now suggest Kobel and other top players could consider leaving if Dortmund miss out on Europe’s elite club competition.
On deadline day, the Bundesliga club completed the signing of Diant Ramaj from Ajax and sent him on loan to FC Copenhagen.
The outlet asks whether Ramaj’s arrival indicates Kobel’s departure in the summer. They have answered their own question and suggest Chelsea could be his next destination.
Chelsea are said to be prepared to offer €70m for the Switzerland international. If they were to make a bid in this region, the report insists it would ‘hardly be possible to stop a departure’ to Stamford Bridge.
Dortmund are fifth in the table, two points behind fourth placed RB Leipzig. If they miss out on the Champions League, then a hefty fee from Chelsea for Kobel can help them to reshape their squad. In fact, Bild say it’ll be absolutely necessary to raise funds.
