Because he’s been injured for so long, there’s been few updates about Davide Zappacosta and his time at Rome.
Loaned to AS Roma for the season, the right-back was meant to use this time to get some minutes under his belt, as the return of César Azpilicueta at right-back, mixed with Frank Lampard’s decision to prioritise youth, meant he would struggle to get any at Stamford Bridge.
A six month loan (with a clause to extend it until the end of the season) was sorted out, and everything seemed like it was going to plan until his knee gave way in training.
Now expected to be out of action until March, Zappacosta could have returned to Chelsea to continue his treatment, but Corriere dello Sport don’t think that will happen.
In fact, the Italian newspaper, in their Tuesday edition, report the Premier League side ‘are not prepared to take back a player reduced to a severe injury to his ligament’.
That suggests the Italy international will now remain until the end of the season in the country’s capital, where he will hopefully return to full fitness to play a few games before the end of the season.
After that, we’ll have to wait and see what Chelsea (or Roma) intend to do with him.
