Having signed Edouard Mendy to provide competition for and eventually supplant Kepa Arrizabalaga, Chelsea don’t exactly need a goalkeeper.
The Spaniard remains the most expensive goalkeeper of all time to this date, and until the Blues manage to recoup some of that original €80m fee, bringing in someone else makes little sense.
However, when some players become available, logic goes out of the window, which could very well be what will happen with Gianluigi Donnarumma.
The Milan goalkeeper has now entered the last six months of his contract with the Serie A side, meaning he’s free to discuss with anyone else.
There’s been a number of reports about this alleged interest from the Stamford Bridge side, but we have yet to see one stating a contract offer being made, until now.
The Italian outlet claim Donnarumma is ‘the number one goal’ of Chelsea these days, and there is a ‘monstrous’ €10.5m/season salary ‘on the plate’ waiting for him in London.
While Milan ‘will jump through hoops’ to tie their star down, the ‘economic superiority’ of the English club ‘could make the difference’.
Chelsea could face competition from Paris Saint-Germain as well, which would make more sense since they have an ageing Keylor Navas in between the sticks these days.
