After Manchester United seemingly ruined their chances of signing Nemanja Matic from Chelsea by pipping them to Romelu Lukaku, the Serbian midfielder is now in need of another club.
The arrival of Tiémoué Bakayoko from Monaco all but put an end to the 28-year-old’s chances of being a regular first-team player under Antonio Conte in the coming season, and an exit is now imminent after he was left out of the Blues’ preseason squad this summer.
Thankfully for him, Gazzetta dello Sport on Wednesday are reporting that he’s now Juventus’ number one target to bolster their midfield, and, lo and behold, with help from the English media, that’s where he wants to go!
He’s not their favourite, however, as that remains Emre Can, but Liverpool’s desire to give him a new long-term contract might make the pursuit of the German a bit too difficult.
So, Juventus have turned to the Chelsea midfielder, but there’s a slight problem, and that is the fact they’ve also frustrated the Blues this summer by rejecting their advances for Alex Sandro.
This means their demands of €45m are seen as a bit extravagant by the Serie A champions, who aren’t exactly prepared to spend that much on their new midfielder.
Do they wait and see if Antonio Conte does his old club a favour, do they move on or do they just pay up?
It’s a tough choice.
