Earlier today, we covered an article in Gazzetta dello Sport claiming that Everton had turned down a last minute offer from Inter to swap Marcelo Brozovic for Morgan Schneiderlin.

The Toffees, as was made clear to Sport Witness two days prior, didn’t want to sell the France international, and the Croatian eventually stayed in Italy.

However, had he gone to Sevilla, as was originally planned, then Inter would have needed a reinforcement, and Corriere dello Sport claim that could have been Chelsea’s Danny Drinkwater.

Bought from Leicester on deadline day last summer for close to £35m, the 27-year-old hasn’t exactly been a regular for Antonio Conte, coming off the bench more often than not.

Corriere state Inter held talks to try and bring in the player from Stamford Bridge, and although the details of the negotiations aren’t revealed, it would have most likely been on loan due to the Serie A side’s current financial situation.

The wording suggests the Italian club held negotiations directly with Drinkwater, rather than going through Chelsea, probably to test the waters to see if he was interested.

It was a bold move, but one worth giving a go nevertheless.
