Chelsea left-back Marcos Alonso is currently only a back-up option for Sevilla, who are prioritising a permanent move for Real Madrid’s Sergio Reguilón.
The left-back was linked with a move to Sevilla yesterday, with reports in Spain indicating that they had identified him as a potential target and were keeping an eye on him should he be put up for sale at Stamford Bridge.
The Spaniard has been heavily linked with a move away from Chelsea this summer, with Frank Lampard thought to be keen to change things up at left-back.
Sevilla were said to be observing the situation, with them needing a new left-back themselves as Reguilón and Sergio Escudero are departing.
However, La Razón report that Sevilla’s intention is to focus on getting Reguilón from Real Madrid on a permanent deal before turning their attention to Alonso.
They explain that while Sevilla believe Alonso can ‘fill the gap’ at left-back, they have not ruled out a deal for Reguilón, who has no future at Real Madrid.
Madrid are open to a deal and ‘ready to sell’ for an agreeable price should Sevilla accept a repurchase option or first refusal option be included in the agreement.
However, should they be unable to find an agreement, then they will turn to Chelsea’s Alonso as an alternative.
Alonso, for his part, would be open to the move as he needs to be playing somewhere regularly to have a chance of making Spain’s squad for the Euros next summer.
El Desmarque back that up and say he is also interested in the move as he could continue playing in the Champions League with the Spanish club and knows manager Julen Lopetegui well from his time in charge of Spain.
There is a problem, though, and that is the transfer itself.
Desmarque explain that any deal with Chelsea ‘is not easy’ as both his wages and transfer fee are ‘high’ and he has three years remaining on his current deal.
In fact, they believe that the ‘most viable’ deal would be a loan one, with some sort of clause put on the end of it, such as a purchase option.
Either way, it seems Alonso will have to wait to find out his future, with Sevilla seemingly set to delay any move before they’ve either given up on Reguilón or worked out a deal with Chelsea.
