There are many different kinds of battles for players in Europe. The most common are winning an auction with a club or getting to the front of a transfer queue by convincing a player.
The second one is the case of Steven N’Zonzi, whose great performances for Sevilla have been attracting the interest from several sides.
N’Zonzi reportedly has a €30m release clause, which can be paid in two instalments, so it’s a reasonable price based on the player’s Sevilla form.
Tuttosport’s story is obviously focused on Juventus, who are looking for midfield options for the January market and now consider N’Zonzi to be a very good target, but the interest of Pep Guardiola and Antonio Conte gets a mention.
The player’s preference must be considered, and given any transfer would likely be at the release clause level, a lot may come down to wages.
Dubbed the ‘New Patrick Vieira’ by Tuttosport due to his height, N’Zonzi has been impressing under the management of Jorge Sampaoli. Sevilla are in good form, and with N’Zonzi part of that they’ve taken steps towards renewing his contract.
Having played for Stoke City, N’Zonzi has Premier League experience, which may give Chelsea and Manchester City reason to believe he could transfer his Sevilla form.
