Chelsea wanted to bolster their strike force last summer, especially after letting Olivier Giroud and Tammy Abraham move elsewhere in the same window.

The west London club were successful in their efforts as they ended up bringing Romelu Lukaku back to Stamford Bridge. To do that, the Blues invested in excess of €100m.

He has struggled to replicate his Inter form for the Champions League winners this term. The Belgium international managed to score only five league goals, three of which came from his first three matches.

Lukaku is yet to find the back of the net in the league in 2022 and has struggled to adapt to the brand of football employed by Chelsea under Thomas Tuchel. Last December, he publicly expressed his unhappiness towards his situation and also talked about wanting to return to Inter.

Paolo Di Canio and ex-Inter man Giuseppe Bergomi were the guests at Sky CalcioClub and were asked whether the Nerazzuri should re-sign Lukaku.

Responding to that, relayed by Calciomercato.it, the former West Ham United star said: “An exaggerated investment for someone who would be on the bench. The Belgian would be out in this team that plays with quality and with the collective.”
