Chelsea youngster Charlie Webster told his agents he wanted to move to SC Heerenveen this summer ‘immediately’ after visiting the Dutch club.
That’s according to general manager Ferry de Haan, who has praised the player for his decision to move away from Stamford Bridge next season.
Chelsea’s Webster is set to move to the Eredivisie on loan in the coming weeks, with it believed a deal is already in place to take the 19-year-old to the Netherlands this summer.
Omrop Fryslan report that he will be the first new player to arrive at the club in this window and has already visited the club five weeks ago, travelling to the Abe Lenstra stadium to hear what Heerenveen planned for him and his development.
This meeting made an extremely positive impression on the Chelsea youngster according to De Haan, who is delighted to have secured the transfer.
“He can handle several positions in midfield but will also really have to get used to ‘big men’s football,” he said.
“In that respect, he wants to invest in himself. Immediately after his visit, he indicated to his management that this is where he wants to play football.
“Webster is a dynamic midfielder, a real box-to-box player. He has a great mentality, and we are looking for those kinds of footballers.”
