RC Lens are showing an interest in Chelsea defender Malang Sarr, who is keen to leave Stamford Bridge this summer ahead of his contract expiring next year.

That’s according to Foot Mercato, who report the defender could be set for a return to France after four seasons with Chelsea.

The defender is ‘being tracked’ by Lens, who are ‘secretly moving forward’ on various opportunities to strengthen their squad.

They’re particularly keen to add players to their defence and Sarr is one of the players they are looking at.

He’s just come off the back of a season in which he was barely seen as at Chelsea, where manager Mauricio Pochettino knew nothing about him, despite the player putting in ‘impeccable’ displays in training.

He had been close to Le Havre in the January transfer window and even travelled to Normandy for a medical, but the move was not completed and he remained at Stamford Bridge.

Now, though, he has ‘no more time to waste’ and needs to find a club where the playing time he wants and indeed needs, to get his career back on track, are on offer.

Lens can offer that and see him as a valuable reinforcement for their defence and so have now seemingly step forward ahead of making an offer.

There’s no mention of Chelsea’s demands at this point, or what Lens would be willing to pay, but there is an insistence that it would represent a ‘great opportunity’ for Sarr to get back to playing and in a league he knows well.
