Chelsea youngster David Datro Fofana is one of ‘several losers’ for Union Berlin as their summer transfer business is questioned after a poor start to the season.
MOZ cover the German club today and rank their transfers from the summer transfer window after a disappointing start that’s left Union two points outside of the relegation.
They’ve been a far cry from the side that stormed the Bundesliga last season, at one point mounting a title challenge before eventually finishing fourth and qualifying for the Champions League.
That led to a big summer window in which they brought in no fewer than ten new players, one of them being striker Fofana from Chelsea.
The hope for him is that he could get regular playing time and develop away from Stamford Bridge, with him very much eyed as a player of the future by those in charge of the Blues.
MOZ say that isn’t happening though as, despite being ‘one of the winners’ in pre-season he has now fallen into a ‘performance hole’.
While still demonstrating powerful sprints, a major plus point of his game, they have ‘barely yielded any results’ for him and his team and he now finds himself playing a substitute role.
They afford Fofana a 5/10 for his performances so far, a decent score considering some of the others handed out to his fellow signings but still nowhere near what he or Chelsea would have been hoping for.
With plenty of the season left to play there’ll be hope he can turn that around but so far, it seems it’s been a disappointing start to life in Germany.
