Yesterday, the French media was confident that Mike Maignan will soon move to Chelsea, largely because he’s keen on the transfer and there’s not a big gap between the two sides.
The first phase of the summer transfer window ends today and as a result, the Blues will have to quickly capitalise on Maignan’s wishes for a move and seal the deal.
Calciomercato’s Daniele Longo reports things have moved after AC Milan rejected Chelsea’s €15m bid for the goalkeeper.
New contacts took place ‘in the last few hours’ between the two clubs, an opening has appeared it’s felt there’s a way to get the deal done, even if there’s no agreement just yet.
There is only a €5m gap between Chelsea and Milan and this can now be bridged, if the London giants offer relevant bonuses. The indication is that the Rossoneri are open to that idea, especially since the 29-year-old has expressed a desire to leave the San Siro.
The report believes that the next few hours will be ‘very delicate’ at Milan but regardless, the Frenchman will want an exit as he has no desire to sign a new deal.
His current contract expires in the summer of 2026 and the Diavolo would rather earn from a sale instead of letting Maignan depart for free.
