Gabriel Barbosa (as known as Gabigol) has rejected an offer to join Chelsea, according to UOL.
The Blues have reportedly bid €30m for the Santos striker, but as Gabigol wants to renew his contract, the Brazilian club wouldn’t even give an answer to Chelsea’s bid.
UOL says that Gabigol will extend his contract to 2021, as his current deal expires in 2019. He rejected Chelsea because he wants to leave Santos as an idol, just like Neymar did.
PSG and Borussia Dortmund have shown interest in the 19-year-old as well, but he’s going nowhere for now. Hebei Fortune, from China, also had a €55m bid turned down.
Gabigol currently has a €50m release clause (yes, the Chinese club offered €5m more than that), but due to his will to stay in Brazil, not even paying this amount would be enough to take him.
Due to a clause in Neymar’s transfer to Barcelona, the Catalan club have the priority to sign Gabigol. So even if Santos had accepted Chelsea’s offer, Barça should be notified so they could have a chance to match it.
